Lesson 27
The Role Of Women In The Church Of Christ
1. Since Christ is the ________ of the church (Eph. 1:22-23),
His word is the only standard to determine the role of women in
the church (John 12:48).
2. Although Christ appointed no woman as an apostle (Mat. 10:2-4),
He accepted women to be His disciples on the condition of obedient
faith in Him (John 8:31). "And certain women ... Mary called
Magdalene ... And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and
Susanna, and many others, which ___________ unto him of their
______________" (Luke 8:2-3).
3. Faithful Christian ladies play a necessary and important role
in the church of Christ. They could be "well reported of
for good works" (1 Tim. 5:10). Paul said that some women
"labored with him in the ____________" (Philp. 4:3).
Christian ladies could do many things to help the works of the
church, such as, teaching other ladies and the young, financial
contribution to the church, relieving the needy, attending to
the sick and afflicted.
4. According to God's order, the "head of the woman is ________"
(1 Cor. 11:3). Women are not to be elders , nor deacons
, neither preachers in the church (1 Cor. 14:34). The
qualification of "the husband of one wife" for elders
and for deacons excludes women from taking a leadership role (1
Tim. 3:2, 12).
5. Paul says, "Let the women learn in silence with all _____________.
But I suffer not a woman to __________, nor to ___________ authority
over the man, but to be in silence" (1 Tim. 2:11-12). The
reasons are found in verses 13 to 14. "For Adam was first
formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being
deceived was in the transgression." Ladies are forbidden
to publicly teach spiritual lessons before men (1 Cor. 14:34).
6. In God's sight for salvation, men and women are equally valuable.
"... there is neither male nor female: for ye are all ________
in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:28). Women are not inferior to
men in the Christian System. However, God has decreed them to
be in submission to men both in the church and in the home (1
Tim. 2:11-15).
7. "... Husbands, _________ your wives, even as Christ also
love the church, and gave himself for it" (Eph. 5:24-25).
Accordingly, God put women under man, and in subjection, for
their protection and honor (1 Pet. 3:5-7).
Conclusion: Christ's teaching will not be changed by time
nor by circumstance (Heb. 13:8-9). Let us obey God's order
for women's role in the church (John 12:48).
