Lesson 26
The Age Of Miracles Ended
1. Peter preached to the Jews, "... Jesus of Nazareth, a
man ___________ of God among you by ____________ and ___________
and _________, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye
yourselves also know" (Acts 2:22). Thus, Jesus' Divinity
was confirmed to the Jews by His miraculous works (John 10:36-38).
2. "And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence
of his disciples, which are _____ ____________ in this book:
But these are ____________, that ye might ____________ that Jesus
is the ___________, the ________ of _________ ... " (John
20-30-31). The design of recorded miracles is to help the readers
produce faith.
3. "And they (the apostles) were all filled with the ________
_________, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit
gave them ______________" (Acts 2:4). This miraculous deed
was to guide the apostles to speak God's revelation, as Jesus
had promised them that the Holy Spirit would "guide them
into all truth" (John 14:25-26; 16:12-13).
4. God imparted miraculous gifts to the 1st century Christians
through the laying on hands of the apostles (Acts 8:14-18), in
order to confirm His New Testament to the world (Heb. 2:3-4).
"And they (the apostles and the early Christians) went forth,
and ____________ every where, the Lord _____________ with them,
and ________________ the word with _________ following. Amen"
(Mark 16:20).
5. Though the apostles had power to perform miracles (Acts 9:32-35),
they did not do it only for the relief of physical suffering (2
Tim. 4:20); but they solely did it for the confirmation of God's
revelation (Heb. 2:3-4; Mark 16:18-20). Accordingly, the apostle
Paul could not heal Trophimus at Miletum. "... but Trophimus
have I (Paul) left at Miletum ________" (2 Tim. 4:20).
6. "And when Paul (an apostle) had ________ his ________
upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they _________ with
tongues, and prophesied" (Acts 19:6). Spiritual gifts were
given ONLY through the laying on hands of the apostles
(Acts 8:14-18). But since all the apostles have died, the age
of miracles ended.
Conclusion: "But when that which is perfect (entire revelation
of God) is come, then that which is in part (spiritual gifts of
prophesying) shall be DONE AWAY" (1 Cor. 10:13). The age
of miraculous gifts ended when the New Testament was completely
revealed in about 95 A.D. Since nothing can be added to it (Rev.22:18-19),
there is no need for the ministry of miracles TODAY (James 1:25)!
