Lesson 24
The Mission Of The Church Of Christ
1. The Bible never refers the church of Christ as the physical
building, but refers it to the body of believers who have
been baptized by the Great Commission Baptism (1 Cor. 12:13;
Mat. 28:19-20). Paul commanded the elders of Ephesus to "feed
the church of God (Christ), which he hath ____________ with his
own ___________" (Acts 20:28). It is unreasonable that Christ
would shed His blood for a physical building. Therefore, the
church of Christ is referred to the body of baptized believers
(Eph. 2:20-22).
2. "To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers
in heavenly place might be known by the __________ the manifold
wisdom of God, According to the ___________ ______________ which
he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Eph. 3:10-11).
According to God's eternal purpose, the church of Christ is to
reveal His wisdom regarding the salvation of men (Mark 16:15-16).
Therefore, the body of believers must function and live as God
has intended them to, in order to make His wisdom known to the
world.
3. Jesus authorized the apostles with these words, "Go ye
into all the world, and _________ the __________ to every creature"
(Mark 16:15). The mission of the church, therefore, is to preach
the Gospel to all the races.
4. Jesus also authorized the apostles, saying, "Teaching
them to observe ______ _________ whatsoever I have commanded you
..." (Mat. 28:20). Accordingly, the mission of the church
is to teach all the teaching of Christ to her members so that
they might grow and be mature in the Faith (Acts 20:32; Heb. 5:12-14).
5. "Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is
this, To _________ the fatherless and widows in their ____________
..." (James 1:27). To relieve the poor and needy, therefore,
is another mission of the church.
6. The church must defend the Faith (Jude 3), for the church is
the "pillar and ground of the ___________" (1 Tim. 3:15).
Conclusion: "... even as Christ also loved the church, and
gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing of water by the ________, That he might present it
to himself a ____________ church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing, but that it should be ___________ and without
______________" (Eph. 5:25-27). Christians must cease from
the practice of sin to fulfill Christ's purpose for the church,
and also must live by His word to glorify God (Eph. 3:21).
