Lesson 16
The Establishment Of The Church Of Christ
1. The church was first prophesied by God through His prophets
in the Old Testament. "And in the days of these kings shall
the God of heaven set up a ____________, which shall never be
____________: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people,
but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and
it shall stand _______ _________" (Dan.2:44).
2. When Jesus began His ministry, He proclaimed the kingdom was
near. He said, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of
God is _____ _________: repent ye, and believe the gospel"
(Mark 1:15).
3. Near the end of Jesus' earthly ministry, He promised to build
His church. He told Peter, "... That thou art Peter, and
upon this rock I ________ build ____ __________" (Mat. 16:18).
He also addressed the church as the kingdom in the following verse
(:19). Therefore, the kingdom equals the church.
4. Jesus promised to build His church during the life-time of
the apostles. "And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you,
That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste
of ________, till they have seen the kingdom of God _______ with
___________" (Mark 9:1).
5. After Jesus had resurrected from the dead, He instructed the
apostles, saying, "But ye shall receive ________, after that
the _______ _________ is come upon you ..." (Acts 1:8). So,
the kingdom would come when the apostles received power from the
Holy Spirit.
6. On the day of Pentecost (33 A.D.), the power of the Holy Spirit
came upon the apostles as Jesus had promised (Acts 1:8; 2:1-4).
Therefore, the church was established on that day. "... And
the Lord added to the ________ such as should be saved" (Acts
2:47).
7. The means of entrance into the church is by one's submission
to the Great Commission Baptism. "For by one Spirit are we
all __________ into one body (The body is the church, Eph. 1:22-23)"
(1 Cor. 12:13). So, about three thousand men were admitted by
God into the church of Christ on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:36-41).
Conclusion: After the day of Pentecost, the inspired writers described
the Kingdom or the church of Christ was as in existence (Col.
1:13). "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in
tribulation, and ____ the ____________ and patience of Jesus Christ..."
(Rev. 1:9).
